Hey, all who has problems with vista, please follow these steps, they MIGHT help. Normally they should cover all normal problems.

For all you vista users, follow my steps:
1. Go to: Control panel (at the start button)



2. Choose: User Accounts



3. Choose this little thingy, UAC off!



4. Untick the box



5. Press oke and run ET normal.

***************************************************************************

If you do NOT have a GUID or a DUPLICATE GUID:
1. Go to A server WITH punkbuster enabled
2. Open the console
3. Do in console:

/pb_cdkeyreg

Should work. No need to reinstall or other stuff

Ah Windows Vista just like what XP used be to like a "pain in the ass" but eventually it will be all be okay lol.

great info, V.  

info: I reformatted, kept my entire et folder intact, transferred to my new hdd. reinstalled et. after a lot of bs with the resolution for my widescreen tv and reinstalling about 30 times, I finally got the game working properly. however, on nq, every single time I join, and on jaymod every 15 times I join or so, I have to reset my controls. I checked my configs and they wind up going back to default keys. well, I got more xp and lvls since I reformatted, so I want to keep my current guid, but I want to put my old config back into the et folder I'm using. when I go into my current game folder, I have no etkey or guid or anything.
my question: if I run the game from my current install, type /pb_cdkeyreg into console, get a guid, put my old config into the new folder, and run the game, will I have my old config while maintaining my current xp & lvls?

Don't mean to steal your thunder VDB but Sally your guid and cfg are not related to eachother at all.  You can change one without affecting the other.  Since your admin level and xp has saved on your current install, this makes me think that you do have a guid already, you might just not have seen it.  It should be in your Wolf>ETMain folder and its called etkey.  If you delete this you will lose your admin and xp.  However, you can change your cfg as much as you'd like without interfering with your admin and xp.

if you are using vista a new etkey  may be created in second etmain (hidden one)

C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\ET\etmain


AppData is hidden folder to see it you need to do this:

Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Folder Options

in the new window from the top click on View -> Advanced settings -> Scroll down and mark -> Show hidden files, folders or drives

now you can go to C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\ET\etmain  and see if there is another etkey there. If you find another one there  just copy and overwrite with your old one to this place

you don't have an etkey and guid (+ when I play on the server I sometimes get kicked because of duplicate guid)
and when you enable punkbuster, you're somehow banned from the server
